It is a great shame some people must be so negative and cruel. HvK does not deserve this. He was not perfect but then who is? What matters is the fact he was a towering genius of music. He was also a kind man as I can testify to: I spoke to him in the 1980s after a wonderful performance of Bruckner's 5th with the BPO. Over several decades he did more as 1 man to bring people together than any number of politicians.

Thankyou for this website dedicated to one of the giants of conducting, whom I had the priviledge of hearing with the Berlin Philharmonic in London in about 1981. One of the greatest occasions of my life, one which I had waited many years to enjoy.

In relation to this last post ... does anyone know if there is any kind of 'Karajan Centennial' edition planned in some way shape or form for next year? I know there have been editions of one kind or another in the past, but it seems that 2008 would be especially pertinent.

Admin reply: Thank you for your comments.......I have now added some more information to the Centenary page covering planned Deutsche Grammophon releases.

I am honored to sign your guest book. HvB was the greatest musician to ever stand on the podium. As a dramatic tenor, much of what I do is inspired by the Maestro and I am grateful to be able to listen to his legacy. Thank you.

I have only recently taken a serious interest in classical music, and even more recently have started, which I hope to be,an ongoing interest in the life and works of Von Karajan.
A sublime conductor to say the least.

I just found your site and love it. I became a fan of Karajan from the DG recording of Walkure. I also saw him conduct it at the Met 2 times. Amazed that he conducted the whole opera without a score.

Complimenti per il sito e pronti per il 2008!!
Non riesco a decidere quale sia l'interpretazione di Karajan che preferisco; quando č morto avevo 16 anni ed il mio cruccio č non averlo potuto ascoltare e vedere dal vivo.
