Last summer I spent a week in Salzburg to attend "Nozze" and "Cosi' fan tutte" at the Festival. I've been there several times in the past years but I never had the chance to pay a personal tribute to the Maestro. This time I did and I visited the Anif Cemetery, some 10 miles away from Salzburg, where he lies. I took another great, yet silent lesson from him: his grave is humble, simply bearing a cross, his name and the dates. Just the aura of his art and fame are the perennial monument to decorate it, more incorruptible than any bronze.
R.I.P., Maestro!

It is a pleasure for me to sign this guestbook. I have only recently discovered some of the great recordings that Mr karajan made with the Berlin Phil. Am currently enjoying the recordings Karajan made of Haydn's "Paris" and "London" symphonies - smashing! Have also just been reading a very amusing rant on a site dedicated to Sibelius written, presumably, by the sites owner - in which Mr karajan is presented as a fiendish war criminal, responsible (by implication) for the deaths of 7 million people!

Well, just when I thought I had heard everything -
I was trying to find a recording of Dvorak New World Largo movement - and the only one that came up sounding "right" was the one of the Vienna Symphony, with Herbert von Karajan at the podium.

How did I miss him these 53 years? I must assume it was because of history. I will be coming to hear more, that is certain. Thank you for making these sounds available, they are exquisite.

Leslie
